Business Ideas - #1: Let me ask you, do you know who (or to whom) you should be selling? It's vital to know exactly what demographic group will likely supply you with the highest number of consumers. It's extremely important when pondering business ideas to know the prospect before you choose to sell any product, because the answer to that question, "Who?" will play the most significant role in determining what you are going to sell in the 21st Century and what selling methods will give you the most success. First, the "who" question.

Currently in the United States, there are seven generational cohorts whose births are marked by important events in World History - beginning before the Great Depression and ending with the recent rise of the digital age. These divisions (with their opening years respectively) are as follows: the Depression Cohort (1912), Pre-WWII (1922), WWII (1928), Baby Boomer (1946), Generation Jones (1954), Generation X (1965), and Generation Y (1981). Where do you fit in?

Since 1954, the birth rate has declined sharply and without fail, every single year. This means that those born between the years of 1945 and 1954 comprise the largest population demographic in the US. So, if we add 65 years to the first birth year of the largest group of people in the US - the Baby Boomers, we find that they began retiring the year this article was written - 2010. Are you beginning to see where the future in sales is headed?

Once we know who our potential customers will be, it's up to us to figure out what they will need and create business ideas that fill those needs.

"Look, it's our job to find out what this guy doesn't know that he needs, but does need. And then make sure that he knows that he does need it, and that we're the only ones to give him the answer... ...You know how you survive? You make people need you. You survive because you make people need what you have, and then they have nowhere else to go."

Perhaps Bill Gates' body of work is not the best business model we should follow, because after all, he did lie and steal his way to the top of the software industry, among other things. But I believe we can accept Anthony Michael Hall's words from the film, and add a grain of salt. This is a powerful sales strategy and solid sales advice, if we use it to help not harm others.

After we have determined the true needs of our target population, and have also found honest business ideas to meet those needs, it's our job to make sure that we are the ones our prospects will turn to for solutions. In a few cases, if we have done our research about the need, the product can sell itself.

What will be the needs of the baby boomers over the next decade? Given what we know about this largest population sector, I will let you in on three of the most profitable business ideas and sales trends in the next ten to fifteen years. How about (1) Health related products and services, (2) products and services related to the disabled, and (3) ways to cut down medical expenses?

Most experts can easily see that a market expansion in health related industries is here, due to the baby boomers moving into their retirement. Yet there is a much larger and more dismal picture to be painted here. A growing number of Americans are waking up to the fact that we are on the threshold of exponential health problems across the board. Regardless of age, disease is on the rise like never before in U.S. history. All around us, our friends, neighbors and relatives are suffering and dying in countless numbers. Why?

Could it be that "the love of money" is preventing us and our children from growing up in a healthy environment? We know that companies like Monsanto and Merk cannot patent what God has created, so they make poor substitutes that cause death and sickness - and then call what they've done a scientific miracle. I call it a money miracle.

Actually, history points to a different motive at the highest levels of power, that is far worse than merely making a profit. More on that later. For now, we will continue to limit our findings to the less powerful policy makers - like the board of Monsanto and the leadership of the FDA for example, who indeed are motivated by the almighty dollar.

I know this firsthand, because my wife of 19 years was dying, and few doctors were willing to even admit that she was sick.

A strong indicator of the dangers we now face is the great numbers of people I meet day after day who, like my wife, cannot be helped by conventional methods of medicine. How could it be that no doctor could save my wife? She is fine now, but what if we had continued to listen to the standard practitioners? My wife would be dead.

We don't fault the doctors completely, for they were never offered an alternative to their limited education. Their training came from the medical philanthropic programs funded by John D. It is public knowledge that John D.
